Hit Point Healing

We are a Therapeutic role-play service located in central Illinois, dedicated to helping our communities grow and develop their skills as Game Masters and Players for tabletop role-playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons.

Meet Your Game Master

Hi, my name is Joan. I am a BSW with 10+ years of role-playing games experience. I have led multiple game franchises, including Dungeons & Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, and my own game, Trials & Triumphs.

Seeing the increased need for role-playing-centred services in the mental health field, I started this service to equip my peers and friends with the skills and knowledge to ethically and effectively engage in therapeutic games. Since then, this practice has grown into something much more. I have travelled across Illinois to share my knowledge and love of role-playing games as well as their therapeutic potential. I have run games for small businesses, large corporations, and everything in between. I look forward to helping you find your stride in the amazing world of role-playing games.

Training

Game Master Bootcamp

Interested in learning how to play but unsure how to start? Perfect! This 4-week course will teach you the basics to run your first game.

$100 for the 4-week course

Story and World Building Coaching

Getting stuck when trying to make a story or world that will captivate your players' imaginations? Fear not! This 1 on 1 session will show you the secrets to making a truly special setting for your players.

$25 per session

NPCs, Voices, and Roleplaying

This is the big one! The thing new GMs fear the most!

Roleplaying is an incredible tool to have on your belt in the therapeutic world. However, it is also one of the most difficult to get into at first. Learning to use your voice confidently and clearly will make all the difference in making your made-up world believable to your players. The best part is, you don’t even have to be that good! This session will train you to bring your characters and world to life with your voice.

$30 per session

Games

Sampler

Confused about what all this is? Not wanting to embark on a multi-hour journey? That's understandable! This service gives you and a small group a list of pre-made characters and a simple, 1-hour-long adventure to allow you to test the waters and see for yourself what all this is about.

$5 per person per session - No minimum number of players.

Modular 1 Shot

Looking to showcase the potential of therapeutic role-playing games to a group of colleagues? Or perhaps just have a night of fun with like-minded individuals, this is the one for you! A Game Master (GM) will help you select a modular 1 time campaign that can be played in the span of one 4-hour session. The GM will help build the character roster with premade characters and give them backstories that match the tone of the experience you want for the group.

$25 per person per session, minimum of 2 players

Custom 1 Shot

Similar to the Modular 1 Shot, this one allows you to customise the experience even further. You will get to make the story truly unique as the GM guides you through the process of backstory writing and character creation. While this experience requires more work for players, it adds an extra element of freedom and autonomy that many players enjoy in these types of games.

$15 per hour per person, minimum of 3 players

Modular Campaign

A campaign is when the same group meets for multiple sessions. Each one builds on the last to create an even grander narrative. When choosing from a list of prebuilt campaigns, players will be given premade characters they can customise as the story progresses. These campaigns are designed to be finished in 6 to 7 4-hour sessions.

$30 Per player per session - Minimum of 3 players

Custom Campaign

This is the big one! A completely customizable campaign, similar to the modular campaign except that you get to make your own characters, backstory, and narrative. The campaign will be set in an “open world,” meaning players will decide where their journey takes them. The GM will create a large setting with a variety of adventures and dangers for the players to discover on their own. It is recommended that the player roster be composed of more experienced players, as this level of freedom can be daunting for those who have not yet had a chance to understand the ruleset.

$25 per hour per person - Minimum of 3 players

Resources

For people just starting to learn about role-playing games, I recommend D&D Beyond as a free resource that can teach you the basics of gameplay and character creation.

For more advanced players, I recommend using services like Roll20 for specific information.

You can, of course, buy all of the books Wizards of the Coast releases regarding lore and rules, but it is not necessary to participate in these games.
